Adam and Eve - Lets Play
Idén bakom Adam och Eve kom till mig när jag dagdrömde. Plötsligt såg jag det framför mig. Jag ville förenkla den manliga och kvinnliga nakna kroppen på en legokloss, en sorts Adam och Eva. Lego var en stor passion för mig när jag var barn. Där fick jag utlopp för min kreativitet.
Skulpturens utformning kändes ganska tidigt i processen självklar. Jag la desto mer tid på att hitta en passande storlek och färg. Namnet Adam och Eve - Let’s Play är också tänkt att vara en viktig del av upplevelsen och jag gillar tanken på att namnet kanske gör att betraktaren ser ytterligare en nivå hos verket. För det är just precis så enkelt - Lego är till för att lekas med.
The idea behind Adam och Eve came to me when I was daydreaming; suddenly I saw it in front of me. I wanted to simplify the male and female naked body onto a Lego brick, a sort of Adam and Eve building block. Lego was a big passion for me when I was a kid. It gave me an outlet for my creativity.
The design of the sculpture was cemented quite early in the process. I spent more time finding a suitable size and color. The name Adam och Eve - Let’s Play is also an important part of the experience and I like the idea that the name might make the viewer see another level of the work. Because it's just that simple - Lego is for playing with.
Galloping dalahorse
I detta konstverk har jag kombinerat två kulturella ikoner: den kinesiska flygande hästen och den svenska Dalahästen. Jag har alltid beundrat den eleganta designen på den två tusen år gamla häststatyn i brons och dess illusion av en galloperande häst och dess magnifika rörelse. Dalahästen är en svensk traditionell stiliserad trähäst som tillverkats sedan 1600-talet. I denna skulptur har jag försökt kombinera de två ikonernas främsta karaktäristiska drag som jag valt att kalla ”Galloping Dalahorse”.
In this piece I have combined two cultural icons, the Chinese Bronze Galloping Horse and the Swedish Dala Horse (Swedish: Dalahäst). Since my early art studies I have admired the simple elegance of the two thousand year old Bronze Galloping Horse, the light feeling combined with the illusion of speed and the clever use of the poor swallow under the hoof as the base. It is interpreted that the flying swallow could not outrun the swift galloping horses hoof. The hand carved Swedish Dala Horse grew from a local cottage industry into a proud nation icon. Its toy like form has been influence by the carvings woods character, but at the same time become wonderfully refined.
Reclining Venus of Willendorf
Venus från Willendorf är en 11 cm hög paleolitisk venusfigurin och har blivit något av en ikon för förhistorisk konst. Figurinen är föremål för många spekulationer. De överdrivna kvinnliga formerna har tolkats som att det rör sig om en fertilitetssymbol. I detta verk har jag hämtat inspiration från denna figurin, samt från klassiska målningar som föreställer nakna, vilande kvinnor (exempelvis målningen Venus från Urbino). Denna skulptur utforskar de föränderliga historiska föreställningarna om kvinnofiguren.
Venus from Willendorf is an 11 cm high Paleolithic Venus figurine that has become something of an icon for prehistoric art. The purpose of the carving is the subject of much speculation. Parts of the body associated with fertility and childbearing have been emphasized, leading some researchers to believe that the Venus of Willendorf and similar figurines may have been used as fertility fetishes. In this work, I have taken inspiration from this figure, as well as from classic paintings and sculptures depicting naked, reclining women (for example, the painting Venus from Urbino). This work explores the changing historical conceptions of the female figure.
